THE INVITATION

Six friends remain. One knows.

At Bellwether House, Mara and Inez have married beside Theo and Julian. The venue was once the Lantern Room, the queer supper club that brought them together. Before the last toast, $8,400 disappears from a glass cabinet. So does a letter from the women who once welcomed them.

Play one of six wedding guests. Ask the question your character has been avoiding, compare the evidence and decide what you say when the truth reaches the table.

Velvet Alibi Studio is Morrow Quay Mysteries’ queer mystery collection. This is a role-based game night for six adult friends. The wedding is the fictional setting; the game is not designed for a whole wedding reception.

ACTUAL GAME PAGES

Evidence to compare. A character to inhabit.

Actual access record, wedding vow cards and a private character opening from the game; no solution is shown

Your evening

Five players investigate while one knowingly plays the thief. A host releases evidence through three acts and may also play a character. Everyone has private conversations and a closing choice. In the final evidence round, each guest has a different question to bring to the table: compare a claim, trace an image, test a timeline or check the numbers. Tasks may be swapped or passed; every essential fact remains available to everyone.

The crime has one fixed solution. Relationship choices change the closing dialogue, not the evidence. No playing-time estimate has been established yet.

What is included

  • Six private roles, three acts each.
  • Twelve evidence documents, graduated hints and an explained solution.
  • Host guide, invitation text, accusation sheets and separate scoring.
  • A4 and US Letter evidence PDFs, six separate three-page character PDFs, a print checklist and HTML reading companions.
  • Three illustrated MP4 films, transcripts and English subtitle files.

The included story films run 1:38, 1:04 and 3:01, totaling 5:43. They combine illustrated scenes, on-screen text and licensed classical and atmospheric instrumental music. There is no spoken narration, live-action cast, standalone music album or full-evening playlist. All essential clues and the full ending also exist in writing.

FOUR RINGS SETUP GUIDE

A separate role for every player.

These instructions apply to Four Rings & a False Alibi. The solo/couples case files use a different starting file and play format.

  1. On a computer, download 01_Host_Guide.pdf and 02_Complete_Game.zip from Etsy.com in a browser after purchase and payment confirmation. Etsy’s app does not provide digital downloads.
  2. Read the host guide first. Fully extract the ZIP to a normal folder, keeping its game, assets and media folders together. Open game/START-HERE.html.
  3. Assign all six roles. Share only the named character’s PDF or HTML file from game/characters with that player. Each private character file can be read on its own. Avoid the combined cast PDF and files marked SPOILERS if you want to investigate without knowing the answer.
  4. Choose screen reading or one evidence paper size. Evidence pages 1–4 are Act I, 5–8 Act II and 9–12 Act III. Print six copies of page 13 for accusations; page 14 is optional shared notes. Each named character PDF has three private pages. Page 3 of the host guide contains the print checklist and the page ranges for the optional combined cast file.
  5. Release one act at a time. After Act III, use the host checklist for the six-person evidence round. All six players complete the same accusation sheet privately and hand it in face down. Open the finale and solution only after all six are collected. Settle scores after the reveal.

Use a shared screen or print the evidence. Optional films need a compatible MP4 player; transcripts provide a text alternative. The HTML companions are reading pages, not an automated game or scoring app. PDFs have selectable text and bookmarks but are not fully tagged accessibility documents.
