Choose the right kind of game

For two people, choose a case designed for cooperative investigation. A role-play murder mystery party can expect a host, separate characters and a larger cast. Morrow Quay cases have no roles: both of you are investigators.

Start with a premise you both like

If you enjoy questioning alibis, try The Second Carbon. If you prefer a story without a death, The Bellweather Seat follows a theatre theft, while The Orchard Lot centres on a suspicious survey.

Give the evidence some room

Clear a corner of the table, bring two pencils and put drinks away from the pages. One printed set works if you share it; on screen, choose a device you can both read comfortably. Download before settling in so you can play offline.

Agree how you will use hints

Some people enjoy staying with a difficult clue; others want the story to keep moving. Agree that either person can suggest a hint. You are solving the case together, not competing to finish first.

Leave time for your explanation

Before opening the solution, each of you can name the detail that changed your mind. Compare the reasoning, then read the ending together. There is no fixed finish time: put the case aside and return to it if you prefer.
